President Sergio Mattarella stressed
the importance of collaborating with China on advanced
technologies during his State visit there Monday.
"Marco Polo based his relationship with China on mutual
admiration and respect, the desire for knowledge and
collaboration," the Italian president told the provincial
secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Wang Hao in Hangzhou.
"We have translated these principles into a modern strategic
partnership and we spoke about this in Beijing with Xi Jinping,
registering harmony and full convergence.
"We have underlined the desire for growing collaboration between
China and Italy and the desire to pour this collaboration into
the most technologically advanced sectors".
The Head of State then paid homage, in the Cemetery of the
Catholic Missionaries, to the Tomb of the Jesuit Prospero
Intorcetta.
Intorcetta (1625-1696), known to the Chinese as Yin Duoze, was a
missionary to the Qing Empire and the first to translate the
works of Confucius in Europe.
