Italy is proud to be in NATO which is
a pillar of security as shown by Russia's invasion of Ukraine
and the Mideast conflict, President Sergio Mattarella told a
Lower House conference on the 75th anniversary of the Council of
Europe and NATO on Monday.
"The Italian Republic is proud to have participated since its
foundation" in the Council of Europe and NATO, "pillars of
democratic security", he said.
"In particular, it stands out today how the Atlantic Alliance
has contributed, in a decisive way, to international stability
and to the longest period of peace experienced by the European
continent, a solid anchor for the security of our country.
"The current phase of instability confirms the validity of those
choices.
"The unacceptable aggression of the Russian Federation against
Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East are obvious reasons
for this".
Mattarella was spraking in a message to the event while he is on
a State visit to China.
