A reported 200,0000 children under
the age of five in Italy lived in child food poverty last year
with their families unable to guarantee at least one meal with
proteins every other day, Save the Children said in the 2023
Atlas of Childhood (at risk) published on Thursday.
This group represented 8.5% of the child population and over
half of them lived in southern Italy and on the islands, where
the percentage rose to 12.9% against the 6.7% reported in the
Centre and 6.1% in the North.
Nearly one in 10 children in the same age group, or 9.7%,
experienced energy poverty, living in inadequately heated
housing in the winter, according to the 15th edition of the
Atlas of Childhood which was devoted to the early years.
