Italy coach Luciano Spalletti blamed a lack of composure for his side's 3-1 defeat to France at San Siro on Sunday in their final Nations League group game.
The defeat is harmless as Italy and France had both qualified for the quarter-finals before Sunday's match, although it enabled Les Bleus to win Group A2, finishing ahead of the Azzurri on goal difference.
Adrien Rabiot was instrumental to France's victory, scoring twice, while Italy keeper Guglielmo Vicario was unlucky to concede an own goal after a free-kick crashed on to the woodwork and bounced onto him and into the net.
Andrea Cambiaso was on target for the hosts to bring the Azzurri back into it at 2-1 before Rabiot's second goal in the 65th minute wrapped up the encounter.
"We didn't keep our cool," said Spalletti.
"While we did try to control the game, we used up too much energy. They were poor goals to concede.
"At 2-1, the game seemed to be in the balance and we could've controlled it. After the third goal, France shut up shop and it was difficult to find any space".
