ISTAT said Thursday that the number
of people in employment in Italy increased by 117,000 - up 0.5%
- in the third quarter of 2024 with respect to the second
trimester.
This was due to the rising number of people with open-ended
contracts (+111,000, +0.7%) and self-employed (+43,000, +0.8%)
which compensated for the decrease in the number of workers with
short-term contracts (-37,000, -1.3% in three months).
Employment also grew year-on-year by 517,000 workers, up 2.2%
compared to the third trimester of 2023.
The annual growth again was due to a rise in the number of
employees with open-ended contracts (+3.6%) and of self-employed
workers (+2.6%), ISTAT said.
People in employment with short-term contracts sank by 5.9% in
the third quarter of the year compared to the same trimester in
2023, said the national statistics bureau.
