The essayist and literary critic
Walter Pedullà has died at 94, his family said Friday.
Pedullà passed away in his home in Rome after a long illness,
they said.
Condolences immediately came from state broadcaster Rai, with
which he worked from 1977 to 1992 on the Board of Directors of
the public service, of which he was also president from 1992 to
1993.
Born in Siderno on the outskirts of Reggio Calabria on October
10, 1930, Pedullà gained literary fame and also enjoyed a
political career after graduating in Italian literature at
Messina.
He also taught History of Modern and Contemporary Italian
Literature at Rome's La Sapienza from 1958 to 2005 - in the
first 8 years as assistant to the distinguished Giacomo
Debenedetti, his teacher.
