The government must give a sign of
attention to the middle class this year, Premier Giorgia Meloni
said Thursday.
The 2025 budget has been accused, among other things, of
favoring low-income workers with tax cuts and ignoring the broad
swathe of middle-income workers.
"There are no things that have remained undone: cutting the tax
wedge, tax rates, tax breaks, and taxes themselves," said the
premier.
"We have concentrated on securing incomes that could not make it
and the few resources we had on low incomes.
"We certainly need to give a signal to the middle class that has
not been given until now.
"We have made a tax reform and we will try to take gradual steps
and, resources permitting, I believe this year we need to give
attention to the middle class".
