A young woman fired from a Florence
gelateria for repeatedly turning up to work late has been
rehired on a court order after judges found commuter train
delays in the area made it impossible for her to get into the
Tuscan capital on time.
"The company," wrote the judges in annulling the dismissal, "had
exposed her to the risk of frequent delays in the morning
journey due to the continuous disruptions of the regional
railway lines, whose frequency was also reduced on Sundays and
holidays".
The woman lives in Pontassieve, about 14 km or nine miles east
of Florence.
The case was covered in the Corriere Fiorentino.
