Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani on Monday said Italian Carabinieri officials will
be departing soon to take part in a European military mission at
the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt.
"They will depart together from Italy on a flight of our armed
forces.
"This is very important, it is a European commitment, as we have
always requested, and also a commitment of our Carabinieri who
have always been present before in Jericho to train the National
Palestinian authority's police", he noted.
The European Union Border Assistance Mission to Rafah (EUBAM)
had the role of providing a third party at the Rafah crossing
between the Gaza Strip and Egypt to foster confidence between
the government of Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
It was suspended after the start of the war between Hamas and
Israel and will be reinstated following the ceasefire.
"Italy is ready to be increasingly present in the Middle East,
from a political standpoint, but also through the presence of
our military in Palestine", said Tajani
