The average Italian is set to spend a
whopping 1,854 euros on energy and fuel this year, according to
a study released by the research unit of retailers association
Confcommercio on Tuesday.
It said this means that energy spending had reached an all-time
high of 9.7% of the overall average per capita annual spending
of 19,000 euros.
The association said soaring energy bills will repress many
areas of non-obligatory spending, with the risk that consumer
confidence will fall.
The study said obligatory spending would amount to 8,154 euro
per capital in 2022, 43% of total expenditure and a rise of 152
euros on last year.
It said housing accounted for 4,713 euros of that figure.
