The Bank of Italy said Friday that it
expects Italy's GDP to increase by 3.2% this year.
It said that the economy grew by about 0.5% in the second
quarter of this year after just making it into positive
territory in the first.
The central bank said consumer spending had been boosted by the
relaxation of Italy's COVID-19-prevention measures.
But it added that the growth forecast would be under 1% for 2022
if Russia cut off gas supplies to Italy and would fall by almost
two percentage points next year before expanding again in 2024.
