Children take up fully a third of
Italian families' monthly spending, according to a survey out
Thursday.
Some six out of 10 parents are forced to forego spending on
themselves in order to cover kids' expenses, said the
FragilItalia Report 'The cost of children', drawn up by Area
Studi Legacoop and the Ipsos polling institute.
"Five Italians out of 10 have children living with them; among
those over 18, almost half are totally dependent on their
parents" and "on average, children absorb a third of the average
monthly family expenditure, especially for clothing and
footwear, school books, sports activities and meals out," said
the report.
"But for a third of families, spending on children accounts for
between 40% and 70% of the budget".
