Some 624,000 families received
anti-poverty inclusion cheques in May, social security and
pensions agency INPS said Tuesday.
In May there were 624,712 families with ADI, the inclusion
allowance, for an average of 617 euros per household and more
than 1.5 million people involved, said the first edition of the
Observatory on the ADI and another benefit, SFL, just published
by INPS.
In May, 436,181 households got the ADI in the South (69.82% of
the total) for 1,129,288 persons, 80,051 households in the
Centre (164,506 persons involved) and 108,480 in the North
(207,637 persons involved).
The average subsidy in the South in May was 631 euro compared to
578 euro in the North.
ADI and its lesser-known partner SFL have replaced the
controversial citizens' wage basic income (RdC).
Government critics say poverty has grown after the abolition of
the RdC, which was subject to widespread abuse and did not solve
job placements while lifting thousands of households out of
poverty.
