Italian anti-Mafia police on Thursday seized assets worth millions of euros from Mario Giuseppe Scinardo, a Sicilian businessman linked to the Mistretta clan of the Cosa Nostra Sicilian mafia.
Assets belonging to former Mistretta boss Sebastiano Rampulla, the deceased brother of Pietro Rampulla, were also confiscated.
Pietro is currently serving a life sentence for his role in the Capaci bombing that killed anti-Mafia prosecutor Giovanni Falcone, his wife and their body guards on May 23, 1992. The seizure, involving companies, properties including land, apartments, villas, shops, vineyards and cement plants and vehicles to an estimated total value of 200 million euros, followed investigations into discrepancies between Scinardo's assets and business activities and his declared income that date back to 2008. In 15 years of activity the former animal farmer managed to assert himself in the earth-moving, construction and renewable energy sectors.
