Members of the State Forestry
Corps on Thursday seized roughly 1,400 kg of 'fake' pasta from
an alleged producer based in the southern city of Bari and
reported the owner for commercial fraud.
The packaging displayed two Italian flags and the words
"Pasta produced using durum wheat from Puglia", while the
officers of the forestry corps believe it was made using durum
wheat from Mexico, the United States and Canada.
In addition, the pasta was not produced by the company in
question but by another Bari producer and sold for double the
purchase price.
During the inspection the forestry agents also found pasta
without the requisite information concerning its production and
expiry date.
