Parts of the Basilica of Saint
Francis and the Saint Augustine church in Amatrice have
collapsed after a devastating earthquake.
The Italian culture ministry said that the 4th-century
facade of the Basilica of Saint Francis in Amatrice, a town in
Italy's central Lazio region that was hit hard by Wednesday's
quake, had cracked and that its oculus had been destroyed.
The single-aisled interior was filled with paintings and
frescoes.
The Church of Saint Augustine, built in 1428 next to the
ancient walls of the town, had a gate from the Late Gothic era.
The Civic Museum has also collapsed.
