Some 1,500 people in
Marche alone have been made homeless by Wednesday's
6.0-magnitude earthquake that killed at least 75 people, the
regional cicil protection department said. Most of the homeless
are in the municipality of Arquata del Tronto and the village of
Pescara del Tronto, which was flattened. Almost all of them will
be housed in tent camps which are being put up. The quake hit a
mountain area straddling the borders of Lazio, Umbria, Marche
and Abruzzo.
