The earthquake that struck
central Italy Wednesday is worse than that which killed 309
people in and around the Abruzzo capital L'Aquila in 2009,
rescuers said Thursday.
"The toll could end up higher," officials said.
The toll currently stands at 247 dead and 264 injured who
are in hospital, but there are reports of more than 400 injured
and an unspecified number of missing.
