Health Undersecretary Andrea Costa said Thursday that he was hopeful vaccines for children under five would be available soon.
Italy this week started vaccinating children aged five to 11 with doses of the Pfizer vaccine that are a third of those given to older people.
"We are confident that the vaccine for smaller children will arrive by the end of March," Costa told RAI television.
"We await the work of the scientists, who every day give is the right weapons to fight the pandemic, with great trust".
