Massimo Galli, an infectious-diseases
expert at Milan's Università Statale, said Monday that he hoped
to see a peak in the current wave of COVID-19 cases driven by
the Omicron variant at the end of January.
But he also stressed that, given the rate at which contagion is
rising, "it is not possible to make certain forecasts.
"Realistically speaking; I expect growth for many more days and
I think this makes prudence obligatory," he told RAI television.
