An Italian man has died while fighting
with a pro-Russian separatist militia in the Donbass area of
Ukraine.
Edy Ongaro, a 46-year-old from Portogruaro, near Venice, was
killed by a hand grenade in a trench during a battle in the
village of Adveedka, to the north of Donetsk, the Collettivo
Stella Rossa Nordest group said in a social-media post late on
Thursday.
The news was confirmed to ANSA by Massimo Pin, a friend of
Ongaro's.
In 2015 Ongaro joined the separatist Prizrak brigade, which
includes foreign volunteer fighters.
