A three-year-old boy is seriously ill
in Rome's Bambino Gesù children's hospital with a suspected case
of acute hepatitis of unknown origin.
There have been several recent cases in Europe of acute
hepatitis of unknown origin, which hits children under 10 and is
highly aggressive.
The central Tuscany health authority on Friday confirmed the
case of the three-year-old, who is from Prato.
The boy may undergo a liver transplant.
Sources said Friday that there have been seven recent cases of
acute hepatitis of unknown origin in Italy.
