The arrest of Italy's most wanted
man, Cosa Nosra superboss Matteo Messina Denaro, is a great
success for Italy and bears out what late mafia buster Giovanni
Falcone said of the Mob, "the Mafia is not at all invincible,"
European Commission spokesperson on internal Affairs Anitta
Hipper said Monday.
Matteo Messina Denaro's arrest is a great success for Italian
police authorities," said Hipper.
"Messina Denaro was on the list of the EU's most wanted
criminals since the launch of the Website and was part of the
latest campaign," she said.
Hipper tweeted, half in Italian and half in English:
"Falcone famously said: "La mafia non è affatto invincibile."
Congratulazioni alle forze dell'ordine italiane! Today the mafia
boss Messina Denaro was finally caught.
He was on the @Europol EU Most Wanted List".
Messia Denaro aka Diabolik after the comics anti-hero was caught
in a Palermo clinic where he had been getting treatment for
cancer after 30 years on the run.
The 60-year-old had long been Cosa Nostra's most sought
superboss, though he was not the boss of bosses, a position that
is still vacant.
