An 88-year-old woman was found strangled to death in her home near Chieti in Abruzzo Sunday and police suspect her 64-year-old son who they found on the edge of a street not far away with his wrists slashed in an apparent suicide attempt, judicial sources said Monday.
The woman, Cesina Damiani was strangled in her home in Casoli (Chieti) and police said they suspect her son Francesco Rotunno, who was found by the Carabinieri not far from the house, on the side of a road, with his wrists slit, possibly following a likely suicide attempt.
The man was hospitalised in Lanciano.
The woman's corpse was found by her carer, with an unsigned note of apology on her side, which may have been written by her son.
The Lanciano public prosecutor's office is set to open a file for aggravated voluntary homicide, local newspaper Il Centro reported.
    An autopsy has been ordered.
