Protesters on Thursday held up signs
reading "Not in my name" and shouted "Shame!" as ministers
arrived in Cutro, the location of the 26 February shipwreck, for
a cabinet meeting dedicated to new measures on migration.
Some also threw cuddly toys at the passing vehicles.
72 refugees and migrants are known to have died in the
shipwreck, which occurred after the overcrowded fishing boat the
group was travelling on ran aground and broke up in rough seas
only a short distance from the beach at Steccato di Cutro after
4 days' sailing from Turkey.
80 people survived the disaster and around 30 more are believed
to be missing, feared dead.
Investigators have opened a probe into the shipwreck amid claims
rescue operations were negligently delayed.
Critics have accused the government of failing to intervene.
