Italian volleyball player Julia Ituma
is dead after falling from a hotel window in Istanbul overnight
while on a trip to Turkey for a Champions League match with her
team Igor Gorgonzola Novara, sources at the club and the Italian
volleyball federation said on Thursday.
Ituma, who had Nigerian roots, was 18 years old.
The club voiced "profound pain" at the "premature" death of
Ituma and expressed its condolences to her family in a
statement,.
It added that the Turkish police were investigating and said its
officials would maintain "respectful silence" about the case.
Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported that closed-circuit TV
footage suggested that Ituma had committed suicide by throwing
herself from her room on the sixth floor of the hotel.
It said her body was found outside the hotel at about 5:30
