Climate activists who poured black
liquid made from diluted vegetable charcoal into the Trevi
Fountain have not caused permanent damage, Rome Mayor Roberto
Gualtieri said on Sunday.
"Fortunately, the initial assessment is that there should be no
permanent damage because the black paint settled on the
waterproofing, not on the marble," said Gualtieri, adding that
it should be possible to remove it.
"The risk is when it goes on the marble, which is porous," he
explained.
