Trento's TAR administrative court on Friday suspended orders by the provincial government to put down JJ4, a bear that is believed to have killed a man earlier this year, and another bear considered dangerous, MJ5, animal-rights group LAV said.
JJ4 is thought to have attacked and killed 26-year-old trail runner Andrea Papi on April 5, although animal rights groups have disputed evidence that the 17-year-old female bear was to blame.
JJ4 has since been captured and taken to an animal centre pending a final decision.
Papi was the first person to be killed by a bear in Italy in modern times.
MJ5, an 18-year-old male bear, attacked a hiker on March 5.
"The lives of the bears are safe for now," said LAV, which presented an appeal against the order with the ENPA and OIPA associations.
LAV wants the animals moved to a location where there would not pose a threat to humans.
A new hearing will take place on December 14.
