Nearly 120,000 passengers will have
been affected by the three-day suspension of flights at Catania
airport, according to initial estimates given to ANSA by
ItaliaRimborso on Monday.
"Catania airport serves 91 destinations, of which 24 are
Italian," explained ItaliaRimborso CEO Felice D'Angelo.
These destinations are connected with a total of 229 departures
and arrivals, he added.
"In these three days of closure, more than 38,900 passengers per
day are involved, for a total of 116,700 passengers", said
D'Angelo.
On Monday morning airport management company Sac said flights at
the airport would be suspended until 2 pm on Wednesday after a
fire broke out in the downstairs arrivals terminal on Sunday
night.
Firefighters were quick to contain the blaze and no one was
injured.
Investigators have opened a probe.
