Perugia Chief Prosecutor Raffaele
Cantone said Thursday that his office was probing allegations of
illegal spying on politicians and other high-profile figures
following a complaint filed by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto.
The investigation regards alleged illegal access to databases by
a finance police officer while working for the national
antimafia directorate.
Cantone said several people had been questioned in relation to
the investigation and a considerable amount of documentation
examined.
According to media reports, Crosetto filed the complaint after
he noticed information about him had become public.
