The charge hypothesized against Filippo Turetta, the 22-year-old Padua university biomedical engineering student suspected of kidnapping and murdering his 22-year-old course mate and ex girlfriend Giulia Cecchettin, is voluntary homicide, but that may change to premeditated murder after forensie tests and his testimony, Venice's Chief Prosecutor Bruno Cherchi said in Padua Monday.
Turetta had previously been charged with suspected abduction and attempted murder, but Cherchi said the discovery of Cecchettin's body with numerous knife wounds to the head and neck "clearly necessitates the change of the charge."
However, the homicide charge is also provisional, he said, and it may change to premeditated murder on the basis of forensic tests on his car and and Turetta's testimony, said Cherchi.
