Italy needs to equip itself with an
organic law on violence against minors, the national ombudsman
for children and adolescents Carla Garlatti said on the occasion
of World Children's Day on Monday.
"The Italian regulatory system of protection against violence
against minors is highly fragmented," said Garletti, calling on
the government and parliament to make the introduction of an
organic law "one of the priorities of the legislature".
"Such a law will at last provide an unambiguous, complete and
precise definition of violence and will make it possible to
bring together in a single text all the regulations already in
force on the issue," she added.
Garlatti also called for the creation of a national system for
collecting and monitoring data, as per the request of the UN
Committee on the Rights of the Child in 2019.
In addition, she urged for a course dedicated to violence
against minors to be included in every degree course leading to
employment in areas concerning childhood and adolescence.
