A 35-year-old man allegedly killed
his father with a blow from a stick in the Sardinian region of
Gallura in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The victim is 58-year-old Giovanni Fresi, a well-known local
goldsmith, who died on the spot.
The incident occurred outside the home of his son, Michele
Fresi, in Arzachena near a bar where the young man had spent the
evening.
According to initial investigations, the bar owners had asked
the suspect, who is reported to have problems with drug abuse,
to leave the premises after he started pestering other customers
and called his father to take him home.
The pair reportedly got as far as the front door of Michele
Fresi's house when he picked up a piece of wood and hit his
father for reasons that are unknown.
Two Carabinieri police officers subsequently arrived on the
scene to find Fresi in an altered state.
They and a woman who had been with the suspect in the bar were
injured in the ensuing scuffle.
