A 24-hour public transport strike
called by grassroots unions affecting bus, metro and tram
services was causing disruption for commuters in several Italian
cities on Wednesday.
In Milan, for example, Italy's first transport strike of 2024
meant that only the central section of Line 2 of the Milan
metro, between the Abbiategrasso and Cascina Gobba, stations was
operational.
So the sections between Gobba and Cologno, Gobba and Gessate and
Famagosta and Assago were closed.
The unions said that, among other things, they were striking
over issues regarding salaries, representation at negotiations
for collective contract renewals, and the subcontracting of work
to external companies.
