Carabinieri police have arrested a
49-year-old man with mental health problems who was stalking
singer Angelina Mango, the winner of the 2024 Sanremo Song
Festival and Italy's representative at the recent Eurovision
Song Contest, local newspapers reported on Wednesday.
The man from Mesola, near Ferrara, sent Mango letters and
hundreds of messages and went to Sanremo to try to meet the
23-year-old in person.
He also stalked Mango's mother, the singer Laura Valente.
A judge had put him under house arrest in January following a
complaint by the two women.
But the stalking continued, so the court decision to section him
and he has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
Mango, the daughter of singer-songwriter Giuseppe Mango who died
at the age of 60 in 2014, won the 74th Sanremo Song Festival
with a pulsating track entitled La Noia (boredom).
