A 34-year-old worker died Friday
morning trapped between the rollers of a machine in a fibreglass
laminate factory in Cividale Mantovano near Mantua in northern
Italy, the latest in a long spate of fatal workplace accidents
in the country.
Co-workers rushed to his aid but he was already dead.
Workplace accident insurance agency INAIL said earlier this
month that fatal accidents had risen by four to 268 in the first
four months of this year.
There were about 1,00 last year, it said.
Five men died after inhaling toxic gas in a sewer network near
Palermo last month, and seven died in a hydro power
plant blast near Bologna in April.
