RAI president Marinella Soldi has
announced she is resigning in a letter addressed to Economy
Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, the State broadcaster said on
Tuesday.
Soldi will be leaving her post on August 10.
RAI said in a statement that Soldi's decision was due to
personal and professional reasons and will be formalized at a
board meeting next week.
Italy's opposition parties have alleged a government takeover of
RAI while the broadcaster's internal union has said it has
become the government's mouthpiece.
Premier Giorgia Meloni has rejected the claims saying the
cabinet is "balancing" the broadcaster after years of alleged
liberal hegemony.
