A 23-year-old, Giuseppe Russo, died
in the intensive care unit of the Policlinico hospital in Bari,
Puglia, due to complications after he was bitten by a violin
spider on July 13, medical sources said on Saturday.
The youth was bitten on his right leg in Collepasso, in the
province of Lecce, while he was working in the countryside.
The young man initially thought he had been bitten by a mosquito
but when the welt on his leg became increasingly large, he
started feeling intense pain due to an abscess that eventually
necrotized his leg.
He died of septic shock and multiple organ failure, the sources
said.
