Italy faced more train chaos after a worker was hit by a train on the Bologna-Venice line Friday causing major disruption on the line after massive disruption on Wednesday after a worker hammed a nail into a cable in Rome and knocked out Termini and Tiburtina stations, and tarp on the track interrupted Rome-Civitavecchia services Thursday.
The 47-year-old man from an external contractor who was working on behalf of rail network RFI died after being hit by a train along the Bologna-Venice line near the station of San Giorgio di Piano, near Bologna.
Rail traffic between Castelmaggiore and San Pietro in Casale has been suspended.
There have been diversions, route limitations and cancellations for High Speed, Intercity and regional trains.
The dynamics of the accident, RFI reports, are being examined by the authorities.
"According to an initial reconstruction, for reasons yet to be ascertained, at the time of the incidence the technician moved outside the area affected by the work," it said.
Transport Minister and Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini has taken a lot of flak over the recent disruption which follows a summer of delays and cancellations due to maintenance work.
There have even been calls for him to quit.
