The "non-observed economy" in Italy
grew by 17.6 billion euro, up 9.6% in 2022 compared to the
previous year, ISTAT said on Friday.
In particular, the underground economy (net of illegal
enterprises) stood at just under 182 billion euros, up 16.3
billion compared to the previous year, while illegal activities
were work nearly 20 billion euros over the same period, the
national statistics' bureau said.
ISTAT also said in 2022 nearly three million people were working
without a contract, stable from 2021.
