A report released on Friday said that
only 10% migrants being held at CPR pre-removal centres in Italy
after being issued with expulsion orders were actually
repatriated in 2023.
The report by ActionAid and the Department of Political Science
of the University of Bari said 2,987 people were deported last
year out of 28,347.
It said the total number of 2023 deportations goes up to 4,267
when one also considers foreigners repatriated at borders, at
airports or directly from police headquarters.
The report, entitled "Detained 2024", said the figures show the
policy of holding migrants issued with deportation orders at
CPRs had "failed".
