Banca Progetto said Tuesday that it
was the injured party after two people were arrested in a
Brescia probe into allegations the Milanese merchant bank was
involved in the loan of 6.7 million in state-guaranteed funds
obtained via false documentation.
The bank was put into judicial administration by a Milan court
last month for allegedly having granted over 10 million euros in
loans to companies linked to the Calabria-based 'Ndrangheta
mafia.
"In relation to press reports circulated today concerning
investigations by the Brescia Finance Police, Banca Progetto Spa
specifies that it is an injured party in the affair," the lender
said.
"The Bank confirms its willingness to cooperate with the finance
police and the competent authorities" and "reserves the right to
take any appropriate action, including in relation to the
dissemination of false and defamatory news for the damage that
could cause the Institute".
The Brescia case is parallel to one by prosecutors in Monza.
