The idea of European bonds for
defence must be welcomed with favour, Italian defence Minister
Guido Crosetto said on Tuesday on the sidelines of a meeting
with his European counterparts in Brussels, commenting an
hypothesis discussed at a meeting of the enlarged Weimar
Triangle in Warsaw.
"Guaranteeing in a European way the indebtment of nations to
meet the 2%" of GDP in defence spending "looks to me like an
idea to be welcomed with favour", noted Crosetto.
"This would lift for every nation the potential weight of
interests on different debts" and would "make security and
defence a common heritage", said the defence minister.
Earlier on Tuesday, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio
Tajani said that "European bonds for defence are a positive
choice for us that must be implemented", speaking after the
meeting of the Weimar triangle in the expanded format, with
France, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, Spain and the
European Union.
