Protesters at a pro-Palestinian demonstration on Saturday threw tear gas and fireworks at security officials in front of the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome.
No direct clashes were however reported between demonstrators and security officials.
Protesters at the march chanted "free Palestine" and carried signs showing the faces of Premier Giorgia Meloni, Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara and University Minister Anna Maria Bernini covered in red stains, their hands "bloodied" by red paint.
The march, which departed from Piazza Vittorio in Rome, was opened by a banner saying "Stop the genocide and massacre in Lebanon - Free Palestine; Let's stop Israel with resistance - Israel a danger to the world".
Protesters carried many Palestinian and Lebanese flags.
The president of the Palestinian communities of Rome and Lazio Yousef Salman, one of the organizers of the national demonstration, said his organization had worked "for the unity of Palestinians in Italy as well as with other Italian groups who are demonstrating today".
Organizers of the protest included Italy's Association of Palestinians (API), the Young Palestinians of Italy (GPI), the Movement of Palestinian Students (MSP), the Arab-Palestinian democratic Union (UDAP), as well as a number of unions and student collectives.
