Italian police said Thursday that they
have arrested a 19-year-old woman while she allegedly was trying
to leave Italy to join Islamist group ISIS.
Hafsa Bakari Mohamed, who was born in Kenya and is resident in
Milan, was detained at Bergamo's Orio al Serio airport on
Saturday while trying to use a one-way ticket to Istanbul.
It is suspected that she then intended to go from Turkey to
Syria in order to fight with the jihadist group there.
The police identified the woman as a budding foreign fighter
thanks to "constant monitoring of radical, jihadist online
environments".
She is suspected of having undergone a radicalization process
and a Milan judge said in the arrest warrant that she was at the
"total disposal" of ISIS.
She allegedly appeared in radical propaganda wearing a niqab and
posted images of herself online pointing with her index finger
in a typical ISIS gesture and talking about martyrdom and being
a "woman fighter" while holding a rifle.
