The towering icon of Expo 2015, the Tree of Life, is now complete, and talk on Friday turned to the content of the special effects shows that the structure will offer hourly during the six months of the world's fair.
The 35-metre Tree of Life sits at the heart of Expo's
Italian Pavilion, whose theme is the Italian Nursery.
Every day on the hour, the structure will offer a
five-minute special effects show involving lights, music,
pyrotechnics, water shows and other effects such as flowers that
open like fans.
In the evenings the shows will last 15 minutes every hour,
for a total of 1,260 shows over the course of the fair, which
opens May 1 and runs until October 31.
The shows will be open to all Expo visitors, but entrance
to the inside of the Tree of Life is strictly reserved to
visitors 25 years and younger.
Inside the structure, digital tablets will be set up for
visitors to leave a 15-second message in a project for the
younger generation to explain the Italy that they envision for
the future.
