A charming Rome statue of a
little elephant by great Baroque sculptor and architect Gian
Lorenzo Bernini was damaged by vandals overnight, sources said
on Monday.
Part of one of the elephant's tusks was broken off and the
piece was found at the foot of the statue in Rome's Piazza della
Minerva, near the Pantheon.
Police and experts from the Rome Culture Superintendency
intervened as soon as the damage was detected.
