The famed Latona of Veio, an Etruscan
statue of the Greek goddess with her son Apollo in her arms, is
to be restored at the Etruscan Museum at Villa Giulia in Rome.
The 510-500 BC poly-chromatic terracotta work was found in the
ancient Etruscan site of Veio at modern-day Portonaccio outside
Rome in 1916, along with statues of Apollo, Heracles and Hermes.
Museum director Valentino Nizzo said the restoration, which was
"never more necessary", would be funded by the Roman legal
studio Carbonetti e Associati.
"We will give Latona back her smile," he said.
