The 95-year-old former screen diva
Gina Lollobrigida has failed in her bid to gain election to the
Italian parliament.
With almost all the votes counted the once 'most beautiful women
in the world' had just over 1% of the vote for a hard left
ticket in a Lazio constituency.
'La Lollo' had also failed in a 1999 bid for parliament.
Her lawyer Antonio Ingroia said she was "perfectly lucid"
despite recent court cases on her inheritance where her judgment
has been called into question.
Lollobrigida was running on the Italy Sovereign and Popular
ticket of Communist Party leader Marco Rizzo in the constituency
of Latina, the 'city of the Duce' south of Rome, and nearby
Frosinone.
Election winner and likely future premier Giorgia Meloni won big
in the constituency.
