Famous statues of horses sculpted by
Sardinian artist Costantino Nivola and his American colleague
Richard Stein are back in place in New York after they were
damaged and
removed in the redevelopment of a playground under the Big
Apple's Wise Towers two years ago.
The statues had graced the playground since 1964.
After calls to bring them back to Nivola's Sardinian home at
Orani, it was decided to repair them and put them back in situ
in the playground.
The museum in Orani dedicatd to the artist said "this is
splendid news".
The president of the Nivola Foundation, Giuliana Altea, said
"the return of the restored horses to the Stephen Wise Ara fills
us with joy: finally a significant work by Costantino Nivola is
restored to public use and enjoyment".
She said "our action, first of denunciation and then of
negotiation, has borne its hoped for fruits."
